The 20-year-old playmaker has endured his fair share of fitness issues down the years, with another enforced spell on the sidelines being taken in. He has been denied the opportunity to prove his worth in 2023-24 as a result.
Reyna started just four Bundesliga games for Dortmund last season, while generating controversy during and after appearances for the USMNT at the 2022 World Cup finals, and has seen questions asked of his future in Germany.
Dortmund boss Edin Terzic has, however, revealed that the highly-rated midfielder will soon be back at his disposal. Asked for an update on his squad ahead of a trip to Bochum on Saturday, Terzic said: “Julian Ryerson could not train without complaints in recent days, he is the only question mark before the weekend. Gio Reyna is on the pitch for the first time today and can participate in parts of training.
Reyna has taken in 107 appearances for Dortmund in total, scoring 17 goals, but has struggled for peak form and fitness across the last two campaigns and will be hoping to put physical concerns behind him as he seeks to rediscover a spark on the field.
