Multiple sources claim Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali will undergo his medical with Newcastle today before completing a transfer worth more than €70m.
Newcastle’s director Dan Ashworth and members of Tonali’s entourage have flown to Romania, where the Italy international will undergo his medical. La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabrizio Romano and Calciomercato.com claim Tonali will finalise his move to Newcastle today.
The 23-year-old will undergo his medical in Romania, where he’s playing for Italy in the U21 EURO. Tonali played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss against France on Thursday, delivering the assist for Pietro Pellegri’s goal in the first half. Tonali will join Newcastle for €70m plus add-ons which are believed to be circa €10m. The player will earn €8m per season at St. James’ Park plus €2m add-ons.
Tonali joined Milan on an initial loan deal from Brescia in 2020 and the Rossoneri made his move permanent the following season. Tonali agreed to take a pay cut to return to San Siro and signed a new €3.5m-a-year deal in September 2022 after Milan’s first Serie A title in over a decade.
