A Selangor state-wide association of football was formed in 1905 in order to create and run an official state-run league known as"the Selangor Association Football League (SAFL). The first cup competition was financed by the British resident in Selangor, R.G. Watson. There was also a report that the group was run by British Residents at that time.

In 1926, a crisis within the SAFL caused some officials to resign from the SAFL and set up an independent association known as The Selangor Football Association (SFA). The conflict between the SAFL and SFA was a constant battle for nearly 10 years until the two sides came to an agreement to reach a compromise to improve soccer in Selangor. The two football associations officially joined on February 22, 1936, with the designation of Football Association of Selangor (F.A.S) (Malay: Persatuan Bola Sepak Selangor) and also forming Selangor FA for the purpose of representing the State of Selangor.

In July of 2018, the King of Selangor Darul Ehsan, Tengku Amir Shah (RMS) was appointed his new President for F.A.S. He was appointed to the post that was left by Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal. In the years since Tengku Amir Shah was elected to the presidency, much effort was put into improving the club. This marked the beginning of a new era for the club into the modern day.

In July the facility was relocated to a brand new 400,000 square foot facility located in Section 5. Shah Alam called the Selangor FA Training Centre (now called Selangor F.C. Training Centre) that was a three-year lease with Selangor F.C. Government of Selangor. The facility is also home to the administration office for Selangor's Football Association of Selangor, club administration office indoor training, training fields as well as a gym, first team lounge and physio treatment area locker room and coaching and administration to be housed under the same under one roof.
