The Mali national football team (French: Equipe de football du Mali ) is the representative of Mali in international football for males and is managed by the Malian Football Federation. The nickname for the team is Les Aigles. They are a part of both FIFA as well as the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Although Mali is a significant young football force in both Africa and around the world however, they have never been able to qualify for any of the senior FIFA World Cup finals in the history of FIFA. They have been able to qualify for Africa Cup of Nations on 12 occasions.

Mali were banned by FIFA on March 17, 2017 because of 'government interference' in the national association of football and the dissolution of the executive board. But, the team was reinstated by FIFA on the 29th of April, following the executive committee's reinstated through Malian government. 1. History

Mali made it to in 1972 to the African Nations Cup final, but fell 3-1 to Congo. They were not able to make finals until 1994, when they reached the semi-finals. The feat was that was repeated in 2002, 2004 and 2012.

They took part in their very first World Cup qualifier in the year 2000. In the CAF's qualifiers to World Cup 2002 World Cup, Mali was eliminated in the first match to Libya. A year later Mali was the host of 2002's African Cup of Nations.

Mali's under 23's team was able to get into this year's Summer Olympics at Greece. The team, coached by Cheick Kone made it to the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament before falling to Italy.

At the time of 2006's World Cup qualifiers, Mali defeated Guinea-Bissau in the preliminary round. In the second round Mali was fourth in their group. On the 27th March 2005 the city of Bamako was rocked by riots. Bamako in the aftermath of Mali was eliminated from an World Cup qualifier to Togo with a 2-1 final minute goal.

The 2010 African Nations Cup, Mali became the talk of the town for coming back from a 4-0 loss with 11 minutes remaining to draw 4-4 with Angola. This is thought to be one of the greatest comebacks that have occurred in recent memory as well as Sweden's famed return against Germany in the 2014.
