Clermont Foot Clermont Foot (Occitan the name is Clarmont d'Auvernhe. It is often known as Clermont Foot or Clermont) is an French association club of football that is based in Clermont-Ferrand. The first version for the team was established in 1911, and the present club was formed in 1990 following an amalgamation.

The club plays match at the Stade Gabriel Montpied located within the city. Between 2014 until 2017 Clermont was run by Corinne Diacre, who was the first woman to lead the men's football team in professional competition.

1. History

The club was founded with the names of 1911 Stade Clermontois. Despite small-league successes in the beginning they reached the semi-finals of Coupe de France during the 1945-46 season. The status of professional was revoked in 1946-47 due to financial issues. The club returned to professional status in the year 1966. 1984 saw the club expand, by Stade-Clermontois along with AS Montferrand merging to form Clermont-Ferrand Football Club (CFC). CFC was placed in the third division.

The club was later changed to Clermont Foot Auvergne, having to re-start within the Division Honneur. In the following 13 years Clermont Foot got promoted several times, from Division Honneur up to Ligue 2 in 1993. Through these 13 years of glory the club enjoyed numerous wins during the Coupe de France. One notable cup run was in 1997, when the Auvergne club eliminated three professional sides, Martigues, Lorient and then Paris Saint-Germain,[citation needed] before succumbing to Nice.

The club was awarded the Championnat National in 2007, and was moved to Ligue 2 yet again, after where they had been delegated in the year 2006.

The year 2014 was the time Clermont was the very first French professional team of men to have the manager of a woman after they appointed Helena Costa. In less than a month of the appointment, Costa quit her role and was replaced by another female manager, Corinne Diacre. Diacre was later to coach the French women's squad.

Clermont was promoted to Ligue 1 for the 2021-22 season for the first time in their history. They received promotion to the league following placing second during the 2020-21 season in the Ligue 2.
