Amiens Sporting Club (French pronunciation amje; often called Amiens SC or simply Amiens) is an French association club of football located in northern Amiens in the Hauts-deFrance region. The club was founded in the year 1901 and plays in Ligue 2, the second division of French football. The club hosts its match at the Stade de la Licorne located in the city. In 2017, the 2017-18 Ligue 1 season was the first time the club has played in its 116-year history. They ended up in 13th place to earn a place in Ligue 1 for the following year. Amiens have not been awarded a major award.
Amiens Athletic Club (AAC) was founded in the year 1901 by a small group of players who were members of the Association du Lycee d'Amiens, French schoolboy champions in 1902, 1903 and 1904. AAC defeated its first opponent Saint-Quentin 13-0 just in the first few months of the club's creation. In April 1902 the Comite of Picardie of l'U.S.F.S.A was established by the then-president of AAC (Henri-Frederic Henri-Frederic Petit). AAC was the dominant team in the initial USFSA league for the first 12 years. The 1909 season saw the team was granted a new stadium located at Henry Daussy Park, allowing the attendance to exceed 1,000.
AAC was established in the year 1933. It received their first official section. It which was later canceled in 1952 after which it became professional again in 1993. Since its inception, AAC has undergone two names: in 1961, the club changed its name to Sporting Club d'Amiens, and in 1989, to Amiens Sporting Club. Amiens participated in Ligue 2 between 2001 and 2009.
The team was able to return to the second-tier of French football during this 2017-17 campaign after finishing 3rd at the Championnat National. Their return to Ligue 2 was the most successful of their history in that they finished runners-up and advanced to the top tier of Ligue 1 for the first time in their history. It was an incredible move, also, since they could have been pushed from the promotion ranks had it not been for a crucial last-minute goal in the final match with Reims. Amiens first season in Ligue 1 ended in survival by finishing 13th in the table.
In the season of 2018-19, Amiens finished in 15th spot on the table. The club made sure they stayed alive with an 2-1 win over eliminated EA Guingamp.
In spite of this, during this year 2019-20, with only 10 games left to play The team was placed in 19th place after sliding down the table following an uninspiring start. They were just 4 points ahead of 18th-placed Nimes. The LFP has suspended Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak. Then, on April 30, 2020, the title of league was handed the title to Paris Saint-Germain and thus the two teams that were placed in the bottom, Amiens and Toulouse were immediately relegated in Ligue 2 for the 2020-21 season.
