This was a head-to-head for eighth place, but the Viola also had other things on their minds, as on Thursday they needed an extra time win away to FC Basel to secure a place in the Conference League Final and were also preparing for Wednesday’s Coppa Italia Final against Inter. Salvatore Sirigu was injured and Giacomo Bonaventura suspended, while Sofyan Amrabat and Nico Gonzalez were rested. Toro missed Nemanja Radonjic, but Perr Schurrs and Antonio Sanabria shook off knocks to start.

Nikola Vlasic fired just wide of the near top corner and Ricardo Rodriguez saw a chest and half-volley smothered, while Yann Karamoh was offside anyway when forcing the save one-on-one from Michele Cerofolini.

Wilfried Singo also mistimed his run and hit the side-netting and Schuurs nodded inches wide from a corner. Jovic came on at half-time and made an immediate difference, as Christian Kouame in a new role down the right whipped in a cross for the Serbian to peel away from Schuurs for a free header from six yards.

Antonin Barak had a shot charged down in the area, as did Riccardo Saponara with handball appeals, but Torino equalised when Alessandro Buongiorno got down the left, pulled back and found Antonio Sanabria to sweep home first-time from 10 yards, getting in front of Igor. Both teams seemed ultimately fairly content with a point apiece, Vlasic wasting the best chance to win by hesitating when sent clear by Sanabria.
