Newcastle can make a mockery of Premier League club after their 'big boys' social media post

Newcastle United will set out to prove they belong alongside the Premier League's elite once more and the Magpies may have some added motivation against Luton Town.

Luton Town do not yet consider Newcastle United to be among the 'big boys' - if the club's social media post is anything to go by.

Luton are looking ahead to their first ever Premier League season and the newly-promoted Hatters have already signposted fixtures against Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and champions Man City in a graphic on Twitter entitled: 'first six vs the big six'. The overall post is topped off with the following caption 'the big boys'.

Newcastle, who are due to travel to Kenilworth Road on December 23, were omitted despite finishing in fourth place last season. For context, Liverpool ended up in fifth, Spurs placed in eighth and Chelsea plummeted to 12th.

This upcoming campaign offers Newcastle the chance to make a mockery of that post and prove last season was just the start. Rather than resting on his laurels, Eddie Howe has said, himself, that Newcastle will 'start from zero' and have to 'prove ourselves all over again'. Howe struck a similar tone when asked if the big six was a thing of the past last month.

I don't know if I can ever answer that truly because I always think it's there for us to prove, the Magpies boss told reporters. People will label teams, try and bracket them and put them in certain groups. For me, it doesn't mean anything. Every season you have to fight for where you end up and if we can consistently be in the top positions in the league then, maybe, you guys might bracket us as something. I'm not going to do that at this moment in time.
