Jesus Navas believes Sevilla ‘must be patient’ against Roma in their Europa League final and called the clash ‘something unique’.
The Spanish side are already the record holders in the Europa League, having lifted the title, and they’re hungry to extend that to seven when they face the Giallorossi at the Puskas Arena on May 31.
Roma lifted their first ever major European title under Jose Mourinho last season and now they’re hoping to one-up themselves in Budapest. The team that wins the final will automatically qualify for the Champions League, an important result considering the league positions of both sides. Speaking in a press conference, Navas first discussed his emotions ahead of the Europa League final.
Something unique, special. I’m from Sevilla, so I understand the importance of being here. To do something so important would be fantastic. He touched on the various injuries in the Sevilla squad and the hospitalisation of former goalkeeper Sergio Rico. Hopefully we can give victory tomorrow to Nema Gudelj and Sergio Rico, who are going through difficult times.
The former Manchester City winger spoke about the importance of the Europa League to the club. We have to be ourselves. Since the coach’s arrival we have worked closely together, united, we have to be intense and we really want to win the title.
Finally, Navas gave his thoughts on Sevilla’s opponents in the Europa League final, Roma. We have to be patient, they are solid at the back and we have to wait to hit them at the right moment. We need a lot of intensity and the team must be mentally ready.
