Mario Retegui’s outings in the UEFA Nations League with Italy has left many unimpressed. The Azzurri were inefficient in the semi-final against Spain, losing 2-1, before narrowly beating the Netherlands 3-2 in the third-place playoff. For many, Retegui is the future of the Italian frontline, but to develop further a move to Serie A seems imperative.
Top Serie A clubs have been following Retegui since the Boca Juniors loanee sprung in the spotlight at Tigre. Lazio, Inter, Milan, Juventus, Udinese, Napoli and Inter are all keeping close tabs on the player’s development, but according to Calciomercato, Fiorentina are reportedly in pole position for his services.
Retegui is expected to be auctioned in the summer by Tigre, with a price tag of €15-20M set upon the up-and-coming striker. Inter were said to be long in the running to sign him, but have diverted their attention in recent weeks to other targets such as Romelu Lukaku and Davide Frattesi.
Fiorentina, who agonizingly lost successive cup finals to Inter and West Ham United respectively, are eager to strengthen their attack, given the uncertainty surrounding Artur Cabral, Christian Kouame and Luka Jovic. Outside Italy, Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig are also showing interest for newly-promoted Italy striker Retegui.
