Rasmus Hojlund suffered defeat to Arsenal on his Manchester United debut, but the Danish striker says his dream became a reality regardless.
The Red Devils appeared to be on course for at least a point heading into the closing stages of a dramatic encounter with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. Alejandro Garnacho saw a breakaway effort ruled out for offside following a VAR review, but there was a late twist in the tale as Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus wrapped up a 3-1 win for the hosts in stoppage time.
Hojlund got his first taste of Premier League football off the bench in that contest, with Erik ten Hag sending him on with 23 minutes remaining. The 20-year-old was unable to make a decisive contribution, as he shakes off the rust of a recent injury, but he thoroughly enjoyed making his bow.
Hojlund grew up as a United supporter – and a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo – and is delighted to now be part of the long-term thinking at Old Trafford. He posted on Instagram after making his first appearance: So proud to make my debut for @manchesterunited the dream became a reality. Unlucky with the result today… but we will bounce back after the international break.
United, who have taken six points from four games in 2023-24, have two weeks in which to pick the bones out of their loss to Arsenal now the latest international break has arrived. The Red Devils will be back in action on September 16 when playing host to Brighton.
