Nicolo Barella has told his followers on Instagram that Inter should not consider their loss to Manchester City in the Champions League final as a failure, and that the team should instead be proud of the journey they have been on in the competition this season.
Inter put in a resilient performance against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium on Saturday night, but ultimately lost out on lifting the trophy after Rodri’s 68th minute winner.
Though there will be natural disappointment from the players, staff and supporters after losing in the Champions League final, Barella has insisted that there are plenty of positives to take from Inter’s campaign in Europe this year.
I always thought that winning meant glory, and that losing was a failure. But in these years you taught me that there’s more to it, the Nerazzurri midfielder explained on an instagram post on Sunday evening. There’s pride and above all the love that you’ve shown us along the way. The locker room is made up of men who have worked to the maximum to get Inter back to where it deserves to be, I can assure you that we’ve shed blood, sweat and tears for the shirt.
Barella continued: There have been victories, which gives us so many positive feelings that we will carry inside us forever. There is also defeat, bitter, difficult to bear, but inspiring in its own way to try to do something even bigger. For this reason, the silver medal will be kept close by, along with the victories, and not hidden away in a corner. Thank you to everyone for this fantastic journey.
