Manchester United midfielder Casemiro sustained an ankle injury while on international duty with Brazil this week.
The 31-year-old was in action for the Selecao as they drew 1-1 with Venezuela in World Cup qualifying. However, Casemiro was taken off with just over 10 minutes to go as coach Fernando Diniz made three substitutes in one go late on.
The injury blow exacerbates a tough week for the ex-Real Madrid star, who was taken off at half-time in United's recent 2-1 win against Brentford due to his woeful performance. But coach Erik ten Hag will be hoping the veteran player will not be ruled out for a long period as he is already without the likes of Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Amad Diallo.
He told Globo Esporte: We had a lot of control when [the three substitutions] came on. Casemiro asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle. It is not yet known if Casemiro will be involved when Brazil face Uruguay on October 18. Otherwise, he will return to United and hope to be in shape to feature take on Sheffield United on October 21.
