Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat effectively confirmed his departure this summer, stating he was ‘proud to have been a part of this team,’ as Manchester United challenge Barcelona for his signature.

The Morocco international was one of the best players in last night’s Conference League Final and commanded the midfield, but the Hammers were far more clinical in their finishing and won in the last minute with a Jarrod Bowen counter-attack.

It was the second Final defeat in the last two weeks for Fiorentina, who fell by an identical 2-1 scoreline to Inter in the Coppa Italia on May 24. I’m proud to have been part of this team, we gave everything we had all season and together we reached two finals, wrote Amrabat on Instagram. To end up on the losing side is a painful feeling for the players and for our fans, we really wanted to share this triumph with you all, and my biggest regret is that we could not do it.

I want to thank everyone at the club who contributed to a great season, to all my coaches, teammates, and everyone behind the scenes that work so hard to put us in a position to compete at the highest level. Your hard work does not go unnoticed and I appreciate you all.

And to our fans, we came this far because of the fantastic support you showed us throughout the season and for sure with some of the best fans in the world this club will challenge once again in the future! It certainly feels like a farewell note and it comes just hours after his brother Nordin told ESPN that he wants to go to the top with his next move.

Barcelona remain the absolutely first choice, just as they were in January after taking Morocco to the 2022 World Cup semi-final, but their financial problems remain a concern, as Fiorentina will not accept a loan without obligation to buy. However, Calciomercato.com claim there could be competition from Manchester United, especially now Liverpool have already snapped up Alexis Mac Allister for that midfield role.
