Arsenal will have to pay up to £80m ($97m) to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford, and will have to sell players to comply with Financial Fair Play.
The Gunners are assessing their options ahead of the January window and are interested in a deal to sign Toney, per The Times. Chelsea are also monitoring the England international, who is banned from football until January 16 after he breached the FA's betting rules, and he is out of contract at the end of next season.
Brentford remain reluctant to lose Toney, and have subsequently placed a large valuation on the striker's head. He scored 20 league goals last season, only behind Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.
Arsenal will need to sell players by the end of June to comply with FFP regulations if they do splash out on Toney. The likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Reiss Nelson could all be placed on the market to raise funds. Arsenal are next in action against Toney's employers, Brentford, in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
