Is USMNT star Weston McKennie injured at Juventus? Massimiliano Allegri delivers fitness update on midfielder & explains why Tim Weah is on the bench

Weston McKennie has picked up a knock at Juventus, but coach Massimiliano Allegri says the USMNT star is fine to continue playing without treatment.

The 25-year-old United States international has been welcomed back into the Bianconeri fold this season following a frustrating loan spell at Leeds that saw him suffer relegation out of the Premier League. He has been a regular in Allegri’s plans, taking in four Serie A appearances at the start of the 2023-24 campaign.

There were suggestions that an injury could keep McKennie out of a meeting with Sassuolo on Saturday, but Allegri insists that is not the case. He said when delivering a fitness update: Well, he took a knock in training the other day but he’s fine.

Juve’s head coach added on McKennie’s fellow USMNT star Tim Weah and why he has been on the bench for the club’s last two fixtures: Weah is fitting in well, it’s a good change, he needs to know the league but I’m very happy with the boy.

Juventus, who are without European football following a points deduction in 2022-23, have made a bright start to the current campaign – with a 10-point return from four games hinting at them becoming title challengers once more. Allegri added on that subject: At this moment we need to raise our focus because there’s too much euphoria around. We’re only in the fifth game of the season tomorrow, with Sassuolo in recent years they have always been complicated matches. We have to get into the top four, it won’t be easy. Inter, Milan and Napoli are above us. A step at a time, with balance, without mood swings.
