The Scout assesses the best picks from Championship winners' attack.

The Scout looks at the Fantasy Premier League prospects of the three promoted sides in defence and attack.

Burnley attack

The arrival of Vincent Kompany as head coach last season has transformed Burnley’s playing style. Burnley returned to the Premier League at the first attempt, scoring a league-high 85 goals on their way to winning the Championship title. Kompany has plenty to do in the transfer market, though, after last season's top scorer Nathan Tella returned to his parent club Southampton following the end of a loan deal at Turf Moor.  The Clarets are also expected to bring in a new forward following the imminent departure of Ashley Barnes when his contract expires later this month.

At present, Josh Brownhill looks the best of the Burnley options in Fantasy thanks to his security of starts and all-round style of play. The central midfielder scored seven goals and supplied a further eight assists, with those 15 goal involvements more than any current team-mate last season. The underlying statistics further reflect his influence - Brownhill's 72 key passes were a team-leading total, while his 57 shots placed fourth. If Brownhill comes in at £4.5m in Fantasy, he could prove a handy fifth midfielder to sit on managers’ benches.

Great value elsewhere

Benson Manuel also has the potential to offer value in the upcoming season. The right-winger was limited to only 14 starts in 2022/23, with a further 19 appearances from the bench. Yet he still finished as Burnley's second top-scorer, producing 11 goals and assisting a further three. In terms of frequency, the numbers suggest Manuel could be a strong budget candidate.

An eye for goal

Manuel's average of 24.8 minutes per shot was the quickest of any Burnley player last season. Furthermore, he was involved in a goal – either scoring or assisting – every 106.4 minutes, faster than any team-mate.  If he can secure a regular role, Manuel has the goal threat to challenge Brownhill as Burnley’s most appealing attacking Fantasy pick.

Kompany’s transfer dealings and team sheets over the summer, meanwhile, can help shed more light on the Clarets’ best prospects for 2023/24.
